I’m always sad when summer is over but on the other side I really look forward to get dressed for fall. I’m very specific about the essentials, there are too many options out there. Usually I’m stocking up on chic yet convenient basics which go with everything. Last fall for example, I bought a wonderful wool felt hat by Los Angeles based designer, Janessa Leone. She creates minimalist high quality designs which last through the seasons. Exactly what I was looking for in order to avoid massive consumption and this feeling of ‘having so much but nothing to wear’. Sure, high quality comes at a certain price point, but if you count down years this garment serves you, you will be surprised. Isn’t that way more economic than investing in fast fashion? I created a list with my fall ‘all stars’. These items return every year and go with almost every outfit, because that’s what great design is all about.
It’s cozy season and nothing beats a wardrobe classic that will serve you forever. Most of my wool coats stood the test of time. My first real investment was a classic belted Max Mara coat I bought at Engelhorn, living in Mannheim during my 20s. It was a tough buying decision, because I did not earn a lot of money at that time. So I went it back and forth and tried it on several times. Once it was mine, I never regret the purchase. I still wear it frequently during late fall and winter, simply because it never goes out fo style. A classic wool coat is THE BUILDING BLOCK for any chic winter outfit. Paired with a great quality cashmere sweater and top handle back, voilà you have an outfit for a lifetime.
Last week I used my client’s research, to create a list of my top 5 wool coats this season. Most of them are already on sale. Check it out.
